In 1994, Bezos left his lucrative job on Wall Street to start Amazon.com, an online bookstore. The idea came to him during a cross-country drive from New York to Seattle. Bezos was captivated by the potential of the Internet, which was growing at a rate of 2300% annually. Despite skepticism from many, Bezos believed in his idea and bet his career on it. Amazon.com was launched in 1995 from Bezos' garage, and within a month, it had sold books in all 50 states and 45 countries.
